Did you vote in the general election last month? Some did, and others didn't. The general election this year was considered very crucial in that there is a presidential election late this year. But the percentage of the vote in the age group 20s was very low, for which they were blamed. So, do we have to vote in every election? Is it required to be mandatory? I strongly believe that the answer should be 'no'. Below are the reasons.
First, it's your choice whether to vote or not. Nobody has the right to force you to make a certain choice, because it's similar to buying a product in a market. You have enough money to buy something but you may not be willing to do that if you have nothing that attracts you.
Second, the right to vote is given to adults, who can make their own decision or at least those who are considered so. For the very reason, the government should not implement a policy for people to vote. Doing so is not different from companies forcing consumers to buy their products.
So instead, politicians should speak out for a realistic pledge and obtain the support and credibility from people, as same as companies develop the quality of their products. A survey showed that one of the major reasons why people do not vote is the low credibility of the runners, which clearly demonstrates the importance of the politician's role in the election.
Therefore, voting should not be obligatory since it's a choice which is given to those who can make their own decision whether they would support politicians or not. Voting is a right, not a duty. We live in a society where we can decide what to do. If a government set a policy of compulsory vote, people will vote for a person whose opinion is contrary to them, which means the government can gain the power to control them. So, it needs to remain as a general people's power.
