To make 'dreams come true'
What do you think about TV broadcast station? How do you think about program director as your job? I have questioned to others a lot, and there is no people who respond to it negatively. For most people, occupation in the press is considered as envious job and symbol of succeed life. And I think so, too. One of the reasons why I try to become a PD is that I want to be a leader who announces my opinion to others and sets it a public opinion. Since influence of the press is tremendous, in fact, people change their mind by adopting its view and set a start of making public opinion. Newspapers in 1980s did it, and TV does nowadays. I want to become a program director of current affairs programs which are closed to the popular voices. However, I`m still lack of many skills to be a good PD.
First, I have few common knowledges. Of course, I think I`m not lack of the common sense compared to my age. I spend more than a hour on reading newspapers and watching news, and interest in politics, economics, and even international relations. If I become a PD, however, I need to know all of things which is in the inside and outside of the country. It means I have to be a walking encyclopedia, but I cannot yet. I`m learning about foreign topics by studying English interpretation and translation as a second major, but most of news I translate is related to only the US, so I need to get more information. To be a nice PD, I should stack the knowledges about current affairs.
Next one is shortage of writing skills. Many of senior PDs said, "To be a good director, you need to have great skills of writing. At first I wondered why, but understand before long. If I cannot represent my thinks by writing which is the most fundamental method in linguistic abilities, I never express the main subject in my films, which is more complex process to show topics. Moreover, writing in the press don`t use florid words like novels. It requires correct transmissions of facts and high readabilities, so I have difficulty to writing it. Until I achieve my goal, I have to try to make better writings by reading lots of articles and re-writing it.
The last problem is an impartiality. One of the main reasons why the press gives rise to public criticism is that they do not observe neutrality. Programs dealt with current events must break from ideology and announce the facts on a neutral position. But most programs are bisected by their principles. PD note, a program which made a sensation of mad cow disease, included a slightly-left ideology, and now a strike of the broadcast employees represents a symbol of conflict between conservatives and liberal forces. When I make a program, then it`ll be conservative because of my ideology. Undoubtedly, there is no real neutrality in the world, but I need to pay attention to it and observe both sides because it can enlarge the troubles.
It is needless to say that no one has all of these things perfectly. However, I think that human life pursues perfection until we die. Plentiful common senses, high-qualified writing skills and a neutral attitude must be improved not to get a good job, but to make own aspect. As an korean saying that "If you know our enemy and yourself, you can win every battle.", I`ll find out my weak points and train it more. If so, it is not a dream, but a reality, and I can perform as an agenda-setter with credit.
Interesting the phrase "walking encyclopedia" it tells pretty much about everything. It would be better if you change 'but i cannot yet' into ' but i am not yet' And if would be also better if you don't use adjective 'nice' before PD. It seems like PD has nice personality.
ReplyDeleteYour introduction tells what you are going to say and have enough information, and body paragraphs are well organized and also you last paragraph sums up your idea well. You sure do know what you have to do to become a better PD.

ReplyDeleteWe told about this issue in class time last week.
I already know that your dream future career is PD.
Your main point seems to be "Three weak points for your future career."
You know what you are lack of. This is really good for you to get closer to your dream job.
I really like the phrase starts with "stack the knowledge about~~".
Your writing is good, easy to understand but the third body paragraph is a little confusing.
I don't know whether it's my little knowledge of ideological issue.
Except that your writing was good!
