Beneficial and Lacking Abilities for Future Career

As a junior in college, I can't help but think about my career every day. My dream job has been changed several times because I wasn't sure what I want to do in the future. It hasn't been long since I decided to become a government official. I want to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Korea. Even thought I set my goal, I came to worry that if I'm really qualified for this field. So I ended up finding my two abilities that will help me succeed in this career and one ability that I feel I'm lacking of for this job. Beneficial abilities are language ability and sincerity. Lacking ability, in contrast, is knowledge in economics and politics.

First, I like learning languages and I'm willing to use my language skills for my future career. Since I was young, I was very interested in learning foreign languages and I liked English the most as my favorite subject. I think I'm influenced by my father who also liked learning languages and speaks both Spanish and English. Consequently, my interest and enthusiasm in languages led me to foreign language high school and university of foreign studies. To work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, it is essential to have high ability to speak foreign languages like native speakers since all the affairs are related to other countries. I learned Spanish in high school and I'm now majoring in Italian and English. If I study harder with these languages as well as Korean, I believe I can be more qualified to be employed in the Ministry.

Next, second ability I have to succeed in the career is sincerity. I'm very confident in working with a sincere attitude. For example, I never missed assignments or turned them in late since I was an elementary school student. I do what I have to do on time and I can't stand doing anything sloppily. I sometimes even think of myself as a perfectionist. Being sincere at work means doing one's best and taking personal responsibility for one's work, instead of treating it as a drag. I believe sincere attitude is required in all kinds of jobs, not only government employees, since it is the fundamental ability. Government officials work for the government and deal with affairs concerning relationships between their country and other countries. Sincerity is needed more than ever to work for the country and I'm sure I can be sincere in my attitude in this field.

Finally, one big ability that I think I'm seriously lacking of is knowledge in economics and politics. While Korean and English were my favorite subjects, I hated math and social studies especially related to politics and economics. Even when I read newspaper, the first thing I do is skipping financial articles. It is vital to have political and economic expertise to be a government official working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. As the name tells, the Ministry mainly work for the political and cultural exchanges and economic trades with foreign countries. It's not surprising that I need good knowledge of these areas. I must try to get interested in these and study them for my career.

In conclusion, there are two things that make me think I'm qualified to work as a government official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which is my dream career. The fist thing is language ability and I should put every efforts to improve it to best level. The second ability is doing work with sincerity which is very important as an essential attitude. By contrast, I don't have good knowledge of neither politics nor economics so I should start reading newspapers carefully without skipping any article and books with related topic. Well, better late than never!

So you can speak Spanish, Italian, English, and Korean. That is impressive! Also impressive that you have never missed your assignment.
I wish you told more about how your father influenced you with other languages.
