Are you happy now? If you are not, why? 'How to live a happy life?' is the single most frequently asked question of all human beings around the world. We think about 'how to be happy' through our life time. Many philosophers also tried to define 'happiness' and give answers to people 'how to be happy' question. But this is not an easy work. And also there is no 'right' one. As for my own answer, there are three things that help us get closer to 'happiness'; Getting to know what happiness is, focusing on now and admitting 'unhappy' things.
First, you should know what 'happiness' is. What I mean is not the official definition but your own definition of happiness. Most people regard 'happiness' as something to 'achieve' like money, attractive appearance and well-paying job, etc. However, it is not always like that. Just forget about what TV dramas say. There is no only one single standard. People are all different from each other. We feel differently on life and world. Even William Shakespeare once said like this; "How bitter a thing it is to look into happiness through another man's eyes." You should find out the things that make you happy. Try to discover who you are and what you care.
After finding, you should focus on now. Even if you are aware of the things that bring happiness to you, you may have some worries. We just cannot live only doing what we want. There are some things we need to do to make a living. This sometimes gives us stress and pressure. However, we tend to get those stresses even more by creating unnecessary worries. Those worries appear because we care about 'future', not present. 'What if I can't do it well?', 'What if I fail?'… These 'What if I…' thoughts don't do anything good. No one knows what will happen tomorrow. I know it is not easy but this is very important. Bygones are bygones. Future is unknown. Only we have is present. Get rid of trivial worries and enjoy the happy moment.
Lastly, try to admit 'bad' things that happened to your life. There is one fact that we should know; we can't always be happy. Life is composed of various happenings. Some are good but some are bad. Life is not always beautiful because that's the way it is. Great novels and movies show this to us. If you don't accept this, you will get discouraged whenever bad things happen. You might think like 'why this happened to me?' or 'why only me?' But everyone goes through difficulties in life. In addition, you can have more gratitude on happiness thanks to your experiences of the opposite things.
If you want to be happy, you should define your own happiness, concentrate on present, and embrace even bad things in your life. 'Happiness' is not far from us. These little things can help you feel better about your life. It is always is to just say, but you can do it by starting out an easy one first. As time goes by, you can find out yourself answering 'Yes' to the question that I asked at the first time; Are you happy?
everytime I miss something.....^^;;;;.... isn't there any way to fix? I can't find the button...:( anyway, the title is 'How to be Happy?'.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing. T_T In the conclusion, 'It is always is to just say' -> 'It is always easy to just say'
DeleteI think it`s a good choice adding quotation of Shakespeare. And your point is also clear to understand. No difficult word, so it can be read easily. Moreover your comments show your careful feedback.
ReplyDeleteAnd last, I say 'yes' to your question, 'Are you happy now?'
