Causes of Stress

Stress is the emotional and physical way in which we respond to pressure. There are many events in life and a lot of things can cause stress. You may feel stress when you go to a job interview or take a test. But these kinds of short-term stresses are normal. What we have to pay attention is a long-term stress which caused by stressful situations and events that last over a long period of time, such as relationship, work, and personal problems. If you know where the stress is coming from, you can more easily cope with it.

First, People around you not only can be a great source of happiness but also can be a significant cause of stress. Family and personal relationships with friend or coworkers perhaps already became a part of the norm for many people. Maybe that's why it is very hard to open our mind to others as we got older. I've also hurt my mind several times through lots of relationships and have learned that people are self-interested and easily change their mind for their own purpose. However, as we all need other people in our lives, you cannot help avoiding this problem, unless escaping from reality.

For next, our job and career seem to cause constant stress. People in modern society are always overwhelmed by high demands and worrying about new types of work and responsibilities. Students are also not the exception for this. Especially teenage and college students cited school work as a major cause of stress. They have too much work and not have enough time. It seems like we are given endless assignments from birth to die.

Finally, stress can be caused by personal issues and problems outside the work place. Personal problems that cause stress include your health, especially chronic illness like heart disease and emotional problems such as anger you can't express, depression, or low self-esteem. It also covers major life changes, such as dealing with the death of parent or spouse, losing your job, and getting married etc. These kinds of stress are usually inevitable that we may feel more frustrated.

I've listed 3 major causes of stress from now on. Relationship, work, and personal problems; these are causes of stress that we have created for ourselves or, at least, the society has. I'll not tell you how to get over it. Think about what stress you feel the most and how you cope with it. Your answers will help you lead a simpler and natural lifestyle.

  1. First, I enjoyed your writing!

I see that you focused on the long-term stress and I think it's interesting.

In the first body paragraph, I think it's better to change the first sentence to 'People around you can be a great source of happiness but they can also be a significant cause of stress at the same time.' to emphasize the negative side. I like that you mentioned your experience but I think your point here is not really explicit. To make the writing much better, I think you need to explain more clearly why the relationship can cause stress.

In the second body paragraph, I think it's better to change the second last sentence to 'They have too much works and not enough time.' I like your word 'endless assignments'.

I think your writing is well organized and easy to understand. I especially like that you wrote 'Think about what stress you fell and how to cope with it.' It was interesting.

  2. First of all, I really enjoyed your writing. Your essay was really well organized one. At first, the introduction where you mentioned short te'rm and long term period stress both was impressive. Also, especially I like this sentence "However, as we all need other people in our lives, you cannot help avoiding this problem, unless escaping from reality." I agreed with your opinion, so I could find myself that I was nodding when I read that part.

Lastly, all words you used in your essay were easy but very clear to understand, such as anger, depression and self esteem, etc. So those words were helpful to make your essay more clear.
