Hanul Park / Downloading and sharing music off the Internet / THU 11-13

Copyright issues is becoming hot potatoes. In April 22, the Prosecutor indicted 28 web-hard operators on charge of an infringement of copyright. They circulated about 1.27 million of files including musics and videos by removing banned keyword. Problems of sharing at web-hards have been pointed out due to this incident. Some media says that regulations for prohibiting copyright ought to be intensified. On the other hand, some people object to these opinion because of reasons such as 'the right to know' and copyleft which means public interests first. However, it is natural for us to have priority to regulation as some reasons.

Before all, illegal sharing is a violation of intellectual-property. Nowadays, society has given the property to formless creations as normal things. The music, listening with no definite ideas, is also a product of composer and his(her) possession. So when you share the audio files to someone or use it commercially, you are a thief because it has a owner. But you can listen the newest songs wherever you go, though sales of music cannot record a hundred-thousand each albums.

Next, an indiscreet downloading becomes a factor of another cultural damage. For example, music sharing websites in Korea like SORIBADA grew into a huge P2P site or web-hards. At here, we can download files not only music but movies. Due to developments in technology, the higher value-added businesses have serious damages on its earning. As an saying that 'Every little makes a mickle', downloading music must be eradicated before culture industries are destroyed.

And last, it`s a problem of conscience. It is a contradiction that people are doing negative acts to their lovely idols. Most of people like over one singer, and listen musics habitually, but never buy an album because they can get the files with no extra charges. However, it can be a critical damage to the singers. Why do you blame robbers while you justify your sharing and downloading? To be exact, both are same! It cannot be justified as you think.

The downloading and sharing is same as robbery. And it must be eradicated because of the legal, cultural and moral reasons. You should pay just 100 won to others services. Like this, music ought to be protected by ourselves. Pay attention of online music services, and it`ll reward you for your little concerns.

  2. First, your hook was very good because it was an appropriate topic and it was also natural to lead readers to the 'copyright' problem.

But there was a sentence that I don't get clear meaning.
'though sales of music cannot record a hundred-thousand each albums.'
and how about changing 'Most of people like over one singer' into 'most people at least like more than one singer'?

I think it'd be better if you add some details like specific examples in 2nd body paragraph. I think only 'movie' is not enough to know what 'the higher value-added businesses' are..

  3. Very good essay!
First, I like that you narrowed the topic given, into particularly illegal music sharing. You are creative to try this change.

Also, I think that you used the saying 'every little makes a micle' appropriately. And you also proved me guilty about sharing mp3 files with friends. One more thing I want to mention is 'their lovely idols.' I think this expression shows roughly when this essay is written.
