Before we get started, let us ask ourselves: “why we are not happy now?” There are many elements of happiness, but at the same time, there are many reasons of unhappiness, as well. Because of jealousy, self-torment and arrogance, people lose their opportunities to live happily. When someone sets his own goal of happiness too high, even he encounters pleasant situation, he cannot feel happiness. He always feels envy of someone who seems to have more. This story is not ‘his’ own story, it could be our story. For these reasons, we need to focus on very carefully what we still have missed.
What are the elements of happiness? First of all, one important element of happiness is a sense of self-satisfaction. People can be happy when they can find themselves to feel satisfied. This satisfaction comes out from accomplishment. People are willing to see their efforts to bear fruits, so a number of small positive events or accomplishments accumulate to provide a sense of self-satisfaction and contentment, which we interpret as personal happiness. For example, people feel excited and satisfied when they won contests or received recognition for successful projects.
Another important element of happiness is a sense of “bond”. Human beings are social creatures. People cannot live alone, and socialization is a crucial thing for making relations between people. According to a research, poor team spirit may cause serious depression. This means people feel sense of stability when they belong to some groups and connection with others. These relations cover not just family bonds but also love and friendship. So, when people feel strong relations with other, their possibility to be happy would be rising.
To sum up, defining causes of happiness in two main reasons-self-satisfaction and sense of relations- may seem like an insufficient psychological conclusion. However, at least, the most important answer is clear. More money is not followed by more happiness. In other words, the wealth or high social standing does not mean the happiness. We have already known the key: the happiness is in our mind and we need to find it inside our mind.
First, its hook is good, I think. I have seen such kind of titled books in bookstore, either. And your conclusion seems to be clear. Lots of examples and explanation make me to understand effectively. But I hope to use a word 'and so forth' instead of 'etc' in the first sentence.
ReplyDeleteI really like your introduction! It's very interesting. It really did catch my attention :D And I think you had a good point. "but the ceaseless efforts to be happy demonstrate that people in these days are not happy enough even though they have become richer, and possessed much more things than before." I especially like this sentence.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't get clear meaning in the sentence 'poor team spirit may cause serious depression.' When I saw 'team spirit', I first thought about the sport team.
And I think the conclusion, 'may seem like insufficient' part is not that good to be put in the ending paragraph. I know you intended to make the point stronger by using 'however' afterwards, but it seems like it's telling readers that the writer is not quite sure about her opinion.
Anyway, it was good overall!
"Way to be happy”, “being happy” or “rules of happiness”, et cetera, when we visit bookstores, we can easily find various types of books about happiness displayed on best seller zones. Why so many “happy books” have been published, still now? As far as we know, we have made a great progress in terms of wealth and health, but the ceaseless efforts to be happy demonstrate that people in these days are not happy enough even though they have become richer, and possessed much more things than before. Then, which causes determine one’s happiness? Those elements can be summarized in two main parts: self-satisfaction and close relations with others not a big house or money.
