Causes of Stress

These days, we are under a lot of stress. What is causing the stress and where do we get this stress? It is because the society makes us compete and compares us with other people. So, as example we get stress at home, at university, and at work.

First, you feel stressed at home because of the comparison. For example, you are a high school student. You get stress from your parents, because they always compare you with daughters and sons of their friends or with neighbors. Whenever you get bad grade from your test, they tell you that someone got better grade than you, and ask us "why can't you get good grade like somebody?" So you have to keep the grade better than other people, unless you want lecture from your parents and get stress.

Second, competition at school cause you stress. You might think that the time of stress in high school is over, but it is not true. You get more stress in the university, because you have to compete with other students to get better grades so you can get a good job. We are mostly graded by the relative assessment, so if you want to receive better credit and keep it that way then you must compete with other students. There are limits in grades, meaning not everyone can get A+. So you get stress that you have to study harder and more, because every other student do the same.

Third, there are both competition and comparison at work. People feel stress when they are compared with other colleagues on their tasks. If you want to keep your job or a promotion you have to be better than anyone. You have to stand out and compete with your colleagues and you have to win. For example, if you are a salesman then you have to work hard to get new clients and maintain them, and sometimes you have to compete with your colleagues to get more clients.

Like this you get stress by your parents at home, by the pressure that you have to get good grades at university, and by the competition at work. No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape from this stress. So we have to find our own ways feel peace out of the stress, or to change this stress into a power that is helpful to our lives like a motivation to a success.

Hi! I read your writing and I totally agree with the places that give us stress.

What I like about this writing is that I can agree with your opinion. Especially I totally about the grade and competition. Your examples are good either.

But the phrase 'as example we get stress', 'lecture from parens' is hard to understand.

And I think your 3 body paragraphs are correlated so they explain almost same thing.

  2. Fist, thanks for sharing your essay with us!

This essay looks very clearly defining 3 causes of stress. And I deeply agree with your ideas that we get huge pressure when we feel inferior and defeated.

But at the same time, it seems to say only competition and comparison cause stress. You are right that the society makes us compete and compare, but maybe there are more other causes except those two, like personal problems. You were too much focused on those two that this essay may seem to repeat same thing over and over.

For last, I like how you conclude your essay. You are right, if we can't avoid it, we have to enjoy it! :)
