Satisfaction: the way to be happy

Happiness is state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy, according to the dictionary. As one can see from this definition, happiness is basically achieved by feeling satisfied, whether the desire is physical or mental. That's why people always try to get something they don't have to become satisfied and happy. Some of them search for money, fancy cars, or marvelous houses, while the others search for true friendship or love. But there are not many people who feel happy although they already have enough. That's because they always focus on the things they lack of rather than on the things they have. Satisfaction makes people happy because it lets people not be obsessed to have something, prevents people from comparing themselves with others, and makes people realize that they are happy.

First, people can avoid becoming too obsessed to get what they don't have if they satisfy with what they have. Generally people think that they are not happy because they lack of something. So they always try to have something that they don't have, believing that it will make them happy. If that doesn't make them happy, people start to search for another thing. In the end, this desire to fill the emptiness by possessing what they don't have becomes a kind of obsession. But the thing is they already have almost everything they need to be happy. If they can be satisfied with what they've already got, people will be happy without this obsession.

Next, people don't compare their status with others' if they are satisfied with their status. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, or so the English proverb says. People who don't feel happy always compare themselves with others, because they are always jealous about the happiness of the others. If the others look happy, they try to have what the others got to be happy like them. But if they feel truly satisfied, they don't necessarily compare with others, since they feel that they already have everything to be happy.

Last but not least, satisfaction lets people realize that they are happy, which is the foremost important thing to become happy. By focusing on 99 percent that they have rather than on 1 percent that they don't have, they finally understand that they are already happy. For instance, people who have been pursuing for the money will realize that there were always beloved family members behind them. In the same way, people who were dumped by their boyfriend or girlfriend will soon realize that they have achieved success in their career.

In conclusion, satisfaction is the primal factor to be happy, since it makes people not be obsessed to possess what they don't have, not be jealous of others, and be aware of their happiness. Without the obsession to have what they don't have and the jealousy towards the others' happiness, people can feel happy if they satisfy. If people who think that they are unhappy start to look what they've got, they will realize that their unhappiness was absurd, since they already got everything to be satisfied and happy.

  1. I really like how you start the paragraph, giving the definition of the happiness. You have background information and thesis statement. Your introduction is well organized and i can see what you want to say for the rest of your paragraphs. I also like you used proverbs, but i hope you change your sentence like
'The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, or so the English proverb says'
    to
'They say that the grass is always greener on ~~ ' or just to shorten the sentence.
Your conclusion restates the thesis statement and concludes your writing well.
