Television is one of the greatest inventions in the world history and it has given powerful influence in our lives. In fact, television became an information channel and telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving images, pictures, and movies from a long distance. These days, many people enjoy watching it and it's hard to find people who don't watch it. As a result, the amount of time that one individual watch television in one day has increased greatly as we become addicted to it unconsciously. At this point, we need to ask ourselves one question. "Could we live without television?" I think the answer is yes. In my opinion, we can live without television as much as we like. There are two reasons why I think like this.
The first reason is that there are many alternative types of equipment for it. Instead of watching TV programs like news and dramas on television, we can watch them on computer or with PMP or with our cell phones. Nowadays, we can easily download TV programs on the internet and move those image files freely from one electronic device to the other ones. The truth is that cell phones, PMPs, iPads and laptops more portable than televisions so it's easier and more convenient to watch TV programs with them. Actually, we can see many people watching live television or movies with those electronic devices in the subway or bus. Even if we don't have a television in home, we can still watch dramas, news, and movies.
Secondly, without television, we are likely to have more time of ourselves. There are many things to do instead of watching television. Rather than staying all day long in the house, watching every television programs, it's better to hang out with friends outside or do our own thing. Sadly, many families spend more time watching television than sitting around the dinner with their loved ones these days. Other than reading books or go exercising, we probably spend much of our time in front of television. After all, television viewing takes away much of our precious time from doing other important activities. Therefore, without television, we can have our own time more than before when we used to watch it every day.
We may feel like we can't live without television right now but if we think on the other side, it's possible. There are many other electronic devices to replace television like cell phones and computers. Also, even if there is no television, we can still enjoy various other activities like reading books and exercising with more time. In my opinion, television is good and enjoyable but not really essential in our lives.
I think its hook sentence is good. Not too excessive, but crucial.

ReplyDeleteI am on the opposite side of your opinion, but your essay is nice.
Paragraphs are nicely divided, all paragraphs have what it should contain. I especially like the examples in the body part.(though we have different idea)

ReplyDeleteI loved your logic in introduction!! It flowed so smoothly from hook sentence to your thesis statement. I also liked how you managed to make your opinion between two extremes. The words like "information channel" and "telecommunication system", which you used to describe TV, struck me powerfully. There was nothing I didn't understand. Your writing will be much more powerful if you put more details regarding your topic in thesis statement and conclusion sentence.

Television is one of the greatest inventions in the world history and it has given powerful influence in our lives. In fact, television became an information channel and telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving images, pictures, and movies from a long distance. These days, many people enjoy watching it and it’s hard to find people who don’t watch it. As a result, the amount of time that one individual watch television in one day has increased greatly. At this point, we need to ask ourselves one question. “Can we live without television?” I believe the answer is yes. In my opinion, we can live without television as much as we like. Now I’m going to explain the reasons why I think this way.
The first reason is that there are enough alternative types of equipment for it. Instead of watching TV programs like news and dramas on television, we can watch them on computer or with PMP or with our cell phones. Nowadays, we can easily download TV programs on the internet and move those image files freely from one electronic device to the other ones. The truth is that cell phones, PMPs, iPads and laptops more portable than televisions so it’s easier and more convenient to watch TV programs with them. Actually, we can see lots of people watching live television or movies with those electronic devices in the subway or bus. Without television, we can still watch dramas, news, and movies.
Secondly, without television, we get more time of ourselves so we can spend much of our time doing what we wanted to do or what we planned to do. In fact, we have various things to enjoy instead of watching television. Rather than staying all day long in the house, watching every television programs, I believe it’s better to hang out with friends outside or do our own thing. After all, from negative point of view, television viewing takes away much of our precious time from doing other important activities. Therefore, if there’s no television, we can still enjoy our lives doing other things.
We may feel like we can’t live without television right now but if we think on the other side, it’s possible. Other electronic devices such as cell phones and computers can replace television and we can still enjoy various other activities with more time of our own. In my opinion, television is good and enjoyable but not really essential in our lives.
