Oktoberfest, one of the largest festival in the world
When you think of German what comes first in your mind? Probably you will think of beer. And there is a famous beer festival in German called Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held in Munich and is also one of the largest festivals in the world. There are 3 things I would like to tell you about the Oktoberfest; origin, events, food. First, Oktoberfest was originally held to celebrate the wedding of the Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Bavaria in 1810, and later it became folk festival. And even though the festival is called Oktoberfest, it begins on the third Saturday of September. It was originally held in October, but they moved ahead the date for better weather. More than 6 million people visit Munich to participate in this festival, and 15% of them are from different countries. There is a special opening event that starts the Oktoberfest. It has become a tradition for the incumbent mayor of the Munich to tap the first keg of Oktoberfest beer, at noon sharp, with the cry "O' zapft is!"- meaning "It is tapped!" in English. After that, all Oktoberfest beers are allowed to be tapped. Also, people can see wonderful parade that shows the history, culture, and tradition of Bavarian. For visitors and the locals, there are many events to participate in, such as drinking beer program, Miss Oktoberfest, and carnival rides. You cannot think of Oktoberfest without sausages and beer. They are the most famous and popular food in festival. So during the festival, approximately 7,000,000 liters of beer, 100,000 pairs of sausages and 500,000 units of chicken are sold. And there are huge tents that each has space for more than a thousand people. In tents, people drink, eat different kinds of food, dance, and sing all day long. Every year, people from all around country come to Munich, German to see this tremendous festival, Oktoberfest. This is the festival where you can drink, dance, sing and have fun for 16 days. So one day, I hope to visit German and have fun participating in Oktoberfest too.

Your essay is interesting, because of interesting topic and sufficient explanation on different culture.
ReplyDeleteIt was such an adorable writing, since I could imagine how you devoted yourself in researching for this writing! I liked the part that you explained about the origine of the festival, because it was really new and fresh to know different cultural background. Your main point seems to be "The history and events of Oktoberfest". I especially liked how you quoted their shouting, "O' zapft is!". It really brightened up your writing. Everything was clear to me. Your writing would be even better if you strengthen the conclusion with objective information, rather than your personal yearning for participating in the festival. But overall, really good job!!
