Sang-Hun Lee / 6th Assignment / Thu 3-4

Sharing is always good except for when we share something bad. This is the main point on the copyright matter of whether it should be legal to download or share copyrighted material from the Internet. I heard the news that a man was arrested after sharing a Hollywood movie, which was definitely copyrighted, and put into prison for one year. I believe that this should not happen in the world, or at least in the country we live, Korea. In my opinion, we should legalize downloading and sharing copyrighted material on the Internet.

First of all, all of us have right to know. So we should have the right to have an access to any information through the Internet. In my 'sharing-is-always-good' perspective, it is natural that those who don't have some information can get it from those who have, and reversely those who have some information can give it to those who don't have anywhere and anytime. It's the same as those who own huge money helping the poor, and low income families getting financial aid from the society. In all cases which have regard to security problems, information should be accessible to everyone.

Second, people's creativity can increase through sharing information. The more we share information, the more creative people can be as they have more sources. That's why I insist that even copyrighted information should be reached to anyone legally. For example, the inventor of 'www' just refused to have copyright to 'www.' World Wide Web, www is world-wide space where people can share information through the Internet, and today all addresses of websites starts with 'www.' Thanks to his refusal to make a profit from his innovative invention, cyber space can develop so quickly and vastly as we all know it today.

Some may argue that sharing and downloading copyrighted materials from the Internet must be banned. One of their main evidences is that if sharing through the Internet is legalized, copyright owners can't get money from their copyrighted materials. However, I think copyright owners can earn money even if sharing on the Internet become legal. For example, I buy books and music CDs when I think they are one of the best. Although I have already read the books and listened to the songs, that past experiences actually help lead me to purchasing.

Protecting copyrighted material on the Internet should be outlawed because the world can get more creative by having contact to any information freely. Also, legalizing free downloading can promote consumers' purchases, and then copyright owners earn money. Sharing information should be recommended, so I hope I may live in a world where downloading information is not a problem.

Shinhye Lee/Downloading/ Thurs 3-4

How often, how many times do you commit theft? Most people would easily ignore this question because they do not think themselves as thieves. However, so many people have been committing theft unconsciously still now. This stealing is invisible one: illegal downloading. The people who download MP3 or movie files illegally also can be lawbreakers. It is disputable issue whether sharing illegally published music or movie files in the internet is illegal and some people argue that sharing information is the internet users' rights in these days, however, I strongly do not agree about that idea with following ideas.

First of all, today, a lot of people over the world like Youtube because on Youtube, people can share and post their personal videos, television show programs and music with free. Moreover, Youtube is not illegal, so there is any restraint from government or agency, rather movie makers actively promote people to share and watch their new movies at that website. Music producers and singers also encourage people to share and watch their audio files, music videos or performance video. For this reason, people who are against banning free download service suggest Youtube as an example.

However, Youtube cannot be an example for people who support free download service in the internet because "listening" the music and "possessing" CD or music files are a different issue. The main reason why people tend to not care about breaking the rule at online would be the products they have stolen are invisible. Possessing or purchasing something in online has different form. People do not have to go to store directly, and they do not need to encounter cashier. All purchasing behaviors are conducted personally and invisibly. However because of this trait of online purchasing, people easily misunderstand the difference between "possessing" and "stealing" even though it is same to buy products at stores.

For this reason, it does not make sense to let all internet users share their "information" including illegally published and released products such as MP3 or movie files. Also, it cannot be a persuasive reason that all information existing on the internet should be free to share because of its invisible and untouchable trait. Even at public libraries, we cannot copy books or thesis with free because they are someone else's intellectual properties. In other words, MP3 music files also belong to certain producers and singers. They are another kind of intellectual properties.

Some people support the free download service at online by emphasizing the important benefit of sharing information that the internet has. They argue that sharing information and files is their freedom and rights needed to be protected. However, they need to remember the fact that if the information or products they had shared each other infringe a copyright or someone's intellectual property, it is a crime, and should be stopped and punished.

Hanul Park / Downloading and sharing music off the Internet / THU 11-13

Copyright issues is becoming hot potatoes. In April 22, the Prosecutor indicted 28 web-hard operators on charge of an infringement of copyright. They circulated about 1.27 million of files including musics and videos by removing banned keyword. Problems of sharing at web-hards have been pointed out due to this incident. Some media says that regulations for prohibiting copyright ought to be intensified. On the other hand, some people object to these opinion because of reasons such as 'the right to know' and copyleft which means public interests first. However, it is natural for us to have priority to regulation as some reasons.

Before all, illegal sharing is a violation of intellectual-property. Nowadays, society has given the property to formless creations as normal things. The music, listening with no definite ideas, is also a product of composer and his(her) possession. So when you share the audio files to someone or use it commercially, you are a thief because it has a owner. But you can listen the newest songs wherever you go, though sales of music cannot record a hundred-thousand each albums.

Next, an indiscreet downloading becomes a factor of another cultural damage. For example, music sharing websites in Korea like SORIBADA grew into a huge P2P site or web-hards. At here, we can download files not only music but movies. Due to developments in technology, the higher value-added businesses have serious damages on its earning. As an saying that 'Every little makes a mickle', downloading music must be eradicated before culture industries are destroyed.

And last, it`s a problem of conscience. It is a contradiction that people are doing negative acts to their lovely idols. Most of people like over one singer, and listen musics habitually, but never buy an album because they can get the files with no extra charges. However, it can be a critical damage to the singers. Why do you blame robbers while you justify your sharing and downloading? To be exact, both are same! It cannot be justified as you think.

The downloading and sharing is same as robbery. And it must be eradicated because of the legal, cultural and moral reasons. You should pay just 100 won to others services. Like this, music ought to be protected by ourselves. Pay attention of online music services, and it`ll reward you for your little concerns.

Seongyool Myung Thu 34, 6th assignment

Sharing files online – it's legal, yes.

Thepiratebay, Megaupload, 4shared – these are ones of the file-sharing pages. There are various movie sharing, music sharing, electronic document sharing pages on the internet and it's not even hard for us to find if we google the titles of the materials we want to get. Like this, even if there exist numerous files sharers, the governments announce that it's still illegal to upload and download files. By now you must have a question in your head, 'Is it supposed to be illegal?' My answer is no and here's why.

First, it can be reproduced without additional costs once you make the original first. What you all need is copying the file and pasting it. It's literally infinite, like the clones you may have seen in the movie 'Matrix'. If you charge for the copied files, you can basically make infinite amount of money, but since it's not illegal to copy books and to borrow books from the library, I suppose that this issue in this regard.

Second, the producers of the very subject can get more famous. Nobody hates money. So the contributors to the materials that are shared on the internet would be furious when they actually see their products distributed for free. However, they can also make money by filming advertisements, being on TV shows, etc. To do this, it's prerequisite to be famous first. By filesharing, celebrities will be more popular as long as what they make is decently good. Eventually filesharers help them get more income.

Last, there are a lot more for police department to do than catching those who share files. They need to set their eye on 'actual' crimes such as fraud, violence, homicide, narcotics and so forth. Filesharing itself doesn't damage anyone. Instead, as I mentioned in the second body paragraph, it will be beneficial to the people concerned. The police should loosen their handcuffs to filesharers and put their guns on the real criminals' head.

Those three above are the reasons why I'm pro-filesharing. It's not stealing money from the manufacturer but give them more benefits, and the government should not waste their money on blocking the passage to the good end. I don't think people will simply change their mind, but as time goes by, they will realize what's right and happily accept it.

Sharing and Downloading Music Online: Legal or Illegal

How do you fill in your mp3 players with music files? Did you legally buy all of those music files by paying money? I can confidently say that none of you get all those files by "legal" way. Some could be downloaded from the internet and some of the others could be shared by your friends. I'm not sure it is okay to say this, but I know both of legal and illegal ways to download music files. So it seems depends on my conscience to choose which way. For truth, I use both of them. I'm subscribing to an online music service with monthly charge for streaming service – not including downloading service. I listen to music by one of those licensed websites first, and then if there is an attractive music that I want to keep in my own computer as mp3 file, I go to a secret sharing website and search it. Then in my case, should I be charged with a crime for guilty of piracy?

About half of the Internet users in Korea copy music, movies and other digital goodies from each other for free through online networks and a statistic that suggests a culture of piracy already have solidified. The problem is that it's hard to see it as wrong when so many people are doing it. People also understand that what they're doing may break the rules of copyright law, but they don't see anything immoral about it. In fact, some even argue that copying a song online isn't "stealing" because the owner still has the original track and still can sell the CD.

Then what makes music different? One familiar argument is that what are different between taking fruits in the market without paying and downloading file without permission. I guess the reason we see sharing as something different from stealing is that we don't put as high a value on it. Maybe the ephemeral nature of online music makes it difficult to conceive of downloading as stealing. We are also commonly exposed to music in everywhere and very easy to access to music that it is hard to feel guilty of crime.

Besides, I think CDs is too out-of-date device of music form. Regardless of the expensive cost, new releases often contain only one or two good songs that there's no other way to satisfy their curiosity about unfamiliar bands. In addition, the main source of artist's income does not come from record sales but does from other concerts or commercials. So I'd rather support my favorite artists by going to their shows and buying their T-shirts.

To sum up, downloading music over the internet has been an extremely controversial issue. It is fact that piracy is one kind of crime. But the thing is we don't feel any guilty of crime because of the different amount of value that we put on music and other possessions. But do we have to see music as a general possession is still very controversial.

Lee Seunghyun / Downloading and Sharing Music / Thursday 3,4

Is it guilty to Download or share something on the internet? No one can confidentally say "Yes!" since most Korean people download music on the internet illegally. There is a big controversy about downloading and sharing music on the internet and everybody knows the right answer. It should be banned. I think Illegal downloading should be permitted because it damages both suppliers and consumers.

Some say that downloading and sharing music is not guilty. They point out that downloading is different from stealing because it could be shared without damaging the original one. Downloading never damages the original version of music, but it is still bad thing since it damages people related to the music. The illegal downloading results in a tremendous loss in music industry. Guess you own your entertainment company. You hired a talented producer, singer and composer. They should be rewarded for their work. If no one buys CDs or pay for MP3 downloading, it means your company can not make profit to pay for the workers.

This is not only loss for suppliers but also for consumers because free downloading on the internet can lower the quality of music. As illegal downloading proliferates, more and more entertainment company get into lean period. Entertainment companies will only concern the appearance of singers to achieve popularity which brings more money with less finacial investment. They will reduce money to the producer, composer because it costs relatively higher than plastic surgery for singer or glittering costume.

Some people argue that buying CD or paying for MP3 costs a lot so they have no other way but to download music on the internet. However, I think it is much better to pay for the music you want to listen to rather than download it illegally to feel anxiety. In other words, you just pay some amount of money to download or just listen to the music online and this is much cheaper than you expect. For example, you can download 40 MP3 files for \3000 in Mnet.com. This means you can download with only \70 for each one. This is quite reasonable and most people can afford it.

Illegal downloading is so common that people even do not feel guilty when they download music on the internet. However, downloading and sharing music on the internet havs negative effect on both consumer and producer. Moreover, buying music file on the internet is not that expensive. So we should always remember that downloading and sharing music is wrong.

Siho Yang/ free music downloading / Thu 11~1

A few years ago, people could download and share music on the Internet for free in Korea. However, soon the government prohibited free-downloading and conducted a campaign against illegal free-downloading on the Internet. Thanks to these efforts, most people now think that downloading music off the Internet for free is not a 'right' thing. However, is it really wrong because the government said so? I would say 'no' to that question. Authorities don't guarantee any legitimacy. In my personal view, the copyright law that prohibits free-downloading is not appropriate.

To begin with, let's consider about the argument 'people who create songs should be paid so that they can get rewarded for their efforts'. I want to ask one question. Are those efforts really their 'own' efforts? Do their all creations come out of nothing? In my opinion, there should be some 'intellectual basis' beforehand to create something. 'Create' means 'make something that doesn't exist before'. We should know what already exists before trying to create something. However, we don't pay for learning these backgrounds. Moreover, even if it's true that there are some their 'own' efforts, those must be a very little amount. I don't think that little amount deserves such money.

In addition, it seems quite unfair when we think about 'other' efforts. There are thousands of jobs and works. People do various things to earn money for a living. For example, some people get paid for their physical labor and others for intellectual labor. Creating songs is also included in intellectual labor. However, the amount of payment for it is too overestimated. If someone makes a song and registers a copyright on it, he or she will get paid for more than 10 years doing nothing but having a copyright! We know that it's much easier for musicians to earn such a big money than for ordinary people who work as a salaried man.

This might be because there is a certain underlying belief that 'artistic efforts' worth more than other normal efforts. But is this true? As for me, I believe that 'artistic ability' is strongly related to 'inborn talent'. We admit the truth that there is an inequality on our births. However, we human beings made 'law' and have developed it to reduce such inequalities. Then, can we say that 'the copyright law' does observe the very important basic purpose of 'law'? I'm afraid not.

Because of these reasons, I don't think the copyright law should be obeyed. Copyright law only considers and protects profits on creators' side. Similar to this, there are lots of conflicts over various interests. And it's very difficult to say 'what is justice' since there is no absolute value in this world. Therefore, we must take all sides to take account when we decide 'right' one. All things considered, downloading music for free may not be a 'bad' thing actually.

Downloading and Sharing Music Off The Internet

Is it really wrong to download and share music off the internet? It may be illegal, but I think it is not wrong. I believe that it is inevitable these days. In Korea many people download music in Melon or Mnet - online music services where you can listen and download music after paying flat rates-, but still there are a lot of people getting music for free from other websites.

I believe it is because of people's way of thinking that make people download music for free. Most people think this way. 'Why bother paying more money on music, when you can get music for free or by paying less money?' Even I do think like that. We don't want to pay more money than other people. We want to pay same amount or pay less. We all have this mentality that we don't want to waste our money.

Also there are a lot of websites where you can get free music. They share their music and distribute them for free. This is the situation we have. We do not have to buy the music because other people just give it away. Nowadays it takes little time to make application for smartphones where you can listen and download music. You can get music from anywhere. It is really getting hard to resist this free music. And there is a raise in music market that makes not to use legal fare paying service.

These days, there is an attempt to increase the fee of digital sound source to develop the music market and to protect the creator. This is worsening the problem. They are encouraging us to download illegally or share with other people. They left us no choice but to do illegal things. Even about 60% of people who download music legally say that the fare is a little bit expensive. So what if they raise the fare? Then even the regular downloader would not pay anymore and turn their backs and get music for free from other websites. Additionally there will be more black markets where you can have music without paying any money.

In conclusion, the situation should change into fair situation for all people including users, creator people in sound source market. Even though we all know that it is not right to get music and distribute to other for free, the current situation is unavoidable. So not only should people change their thoughts to pay certain amount of money for the creator, but also should the music market be reasonable for people downloading music.

Downloading and Sharing Music off the Internet

Illegally downloading and sharing music off the internet for free is a huge controversy in these days. Many people say that the music is once bought by someone and then shared so they are not hurting anyone. Companies and musicians, on the other hand, have a different view. They argue that they made this music so downloading and sharing their music free off the internet is an indirect violation of copyright laws. With regard to this controversy, I think downloading and sharing music off the internet is not much a problem if people pay some money.

Imagine that you are a composer who makes a song or a musician who actually sings a song. As a composer, you spend much time to make and complete one song. As a musician, you work hard to successfully sing it. In fact, every song is the result of artists' hard work. I strongly think that these producers of songs should be rewarded for their efforts and accomplishment. They are not allowed to make much money if the song is downloaded for free every day. Also, they can go bankrupt if the public only downloads their music for free. Some of them have already gone bankrupt because the public does not purchase their music.

It's also understandable that people want to enjoy music for free. The truth is that the CDs cost a lot these days. People, who download music for free on web pages, claim that it is really no different than recording a song played on the radio. Also, they say that there is always a good chance that people download songs of artists they have never heard before. If they like what they hear, they may become a fan and that artist can make money from future purchases by that fans. Moreover, artists still can make more money with their concerts and commercials where they lend their music.

However, as consumers, people can find ways to support the artists. There are ways for producers to make sure that no one downloads music for free and one of them is to make people pay a fee before they download music. Other ways include making sure that only less than half of the music or some parts of the music are able to be downloaded for free. But in my opinion, the best way is to put a charge on each song so people can pay money when they download it. I strongly believe that this way meets the demands of both producers and listeners.

In conclusion, I think downloading and sharing music off the internet is good but doing it for free is wrong. Even though the cost of CDs is high and downloading music seems to be no different than recording it from radio, the producers including songwriters and singers deserve to be treated fairly for their hard work and accomplishment. Downloading copyrighted material without paying for it is theft. So, if you want to download and share music off the internet, I recommend you to pay certain amount of money. This is the right way.

Copyright – One of the Most Basic Rights Today

Copyright industry in Korea has already reached 80 billion dollars, which is the world's 9th largest, and its domestic musical copyright business has grown to 500 million dollars industry in last year, according to Korea copyright association. As the national intellectual property market has shown rapid growth during last decades, Korean government has newly established number of relevant laws and regulations and initiated official exam for licensed copyright manager since 2010. This trend shows the surging demand for protecting intellectual property business nationwide, which has already been hot global issue for last several decades.

However, despite these governmental efforts to safeguard copyrights, the nation still has been invading the rights, which seriously damage the industry with 20 billion dollars loss annually. The musical copyright industry suffers from the most devastating loss, since people illegally download and share music files. I oppose to this prevalent trend of encroaching musical possession for following reasons.

First of all, downloading and sharing music off Internet is simply unethical behavior, nothing more than robbery. Not only the material property, but also intangible ones such as copyrights, should be protected because artists, musicians, or writers for them must have spent lots of time and energy on producing their feats. They have right to make profits by their work and this right cannot be invaded, unless one gets producer's permission to utilize it. It is very common sense that one gets punished if he steals something, even a little snack in supermarket. What makes difference with this from illegally downloading and sharing music files? Nothing, definitely.

Secondly, unlawful downloading severely threats the principles and mechanism of capitalistic system, which is widely accepted by the most of countries today. Some might claim that freely obtaining music files should be allowed, since inventor does not need to spend additional cost for manufacturing and distributing MP3 files. They might think the inventor is too greedy to take profits from these easily and freely reproductive computer files. However, I would like to warn them what they think is anti-capitalistic idea, which seriously harms all of members in whole society. As it is obviously examined by history, all communist nations failed to thrive their economy by equal division system, which impedes one's creative thoughts and lowers work efficiency. One's contribution to his or her property should be respected, rather than robbed. The latter only works in communist nation, such as the last survivor, North Korea.

As you can see from previous paragraphs, it causes many serious and negative results to download and share music without permission from inventor. It provokes unfavorable situation on both ethical and realistic matter, which indicates people must not invade others' intellectual property. Even if it's not likely to happen that people pay for every single files of MP3, the free downloading practice should be corrected to further our own benefits and rights in long term perspective. That is the long, but right way for us to go.

Sharing and Downloading the Music Online: A Disrespectful Deed for Musicians

There always has been controversy about downloading and sharing music off the Internet. Some people who agree with the idea say that the music files are part of online information for which people pay, so people should be able to download and share them freely. On the contrary, others think it's not right to download as well as share others' works without any payment. They also warn if people continue sharing and downloading them, the music industry will not be able to make a living, and people will not be able to listen to the good songs anymore. Between these two opinions, it's better not to allow sharing music online as well as downloading it without paying.

To begin with, surely internet users have the right to search music and listen to it; however, people can listen to the music through music videos that are officially released, not necessarily through free music files. Every music company distributes its musicians' music videos for free. In the music videos, there are always the musicians' songs as background music. So, if people's goal is only getting information and knowledge about the song, they can get enough from free music videos.

Also, if people want to listen to the song without video, they can buy CD of the song or download it after their payment. As I mentioned earlier in the introduction, some insist that since people pay to get information online, they should be able to share and listen to the songs online, just like they can get information on the Internet. But, first of all, since the music is someone's intellectual possession, downloading the music without payment is like stealing someone's work. Also, it is not a respectful attitude towards music composers and writers. Those who struggled to produce good music have right to receive corresponsive money.

There are several examples of online sites that ban free sharing as well as downloading of music files in Korea. Less than 10 years ago, in Korea, free music files were abundant on the internet. But the government has prohibited online free downloading of music files some years ago, and now no single site offers free music files. For example, Naver and Daum, the most popular searching engines in Korea, offers 1 minute free teaser of the songs as well as official music videos, but charges some money for the full songs. Also, every Korean site that provides music files, such as Bugs, Mnet, and Melon, receives some money from people who listen to the music from its site.

To sum up, of course the rights of Internet users must be protected, but so do the rights of musicians. When the two rights make a conflict, it's best to make a compromise for each other. Now that musicians already made some concession by allowing free music videos on the Internet, internet users should also pay some respect to their hard work by not downloading their works without payment. To better protect the music industry and the songs that they produce, sharing and downloading the music on the internet for free must be banned.

Sang-Hun Lee / Cause of happiness / Thu 11-1

One Thing that Brings Me Happiness

'One-way' love is less happy comparing to when you love in 'both ways.' Guess you found out the one you loved also fell in love with you. That must be great happiness! On the contrary, you would stop loving any longer when you failed to win his/her love. That must make you unhappy for a certain period of time. These show that it depends on 'LOVE' whether we are happy or unhappy. I believe that we can find the greatest happiness in 'LOVE.' Nothing else can make us happy like love does.

Love always appears in a relationship. You feel happy when you have a talk with one of your friends. It is because, whether you know it or not, you have friendship with the friend, which is love between you and the peer. You can find love in any relationship such as with parents, friends, neighbors, and even with yourselves. The first step for your happiness is to love yourself because relationships with others are fundamentally based on relationship with yourself. Tell yourself "I love you." I met some people who didn't love themselves much. They said "how can I love myself? Even my parents seem like they don't love me!" Ask your parents, dear friends! I'm sure your parents will tell you from their heart that they love you. Love yourself first, ask parents, if necessary, how they love you, and then you will soon find bigger happiness in relationships

Love always looks like something. Hidden love usually doesn't make us happy. When love has a shape we find out how love looks like in the time of need, then we finally become happy with love in the shape. If I were alone and lonely, love must look like a friend. When a friend comes to me and listens to me, I will be happy because I feel his love get in shape as being my friend. If I were frustrated at poor grades and was crying, love must look like a warmhearted and friendly father. When my father comes to me and hugs me, I'll be happy because I have been comforted by my father's hug. If you learned what love can look like, then you can also show your love to others, and this 'both-way love' multiplies happiness. When we love each other, then we are so happy. That's why you may feel happy with your friends and family members. So remember that when your love has a shape, that makes both you and loved one a lot happier.

Words of love make me happy. I want to let you know some beautiful lyrics of two songs which are singing true love. These songs make me moved whenever I listen to. First of all, it is 'If I Ain't Got You' by Alicia Keys. The chorus goes like this: Some people want it all / But I don't want nothing at all / If I ain't got you, baby // Some people want diamond ring / Some just want everything / But everything means nothing / If I ain't got you. The other is 'I Need You More' by Kim Walker, which the verse goes like this: I need you more, more than yesterday / I need you more, more than words can say / I need you more than ever before / I need you more // More than the air I breathe / … More than the next heartbeat / More than anything. I need you more. These songs taught me what words of love are. Some might think these are 'ogl-ogl,' which is a Korean slang used to show that you are shy or ashamed. But, although words of love can be regarded 'ogle-ogle' first, doesn't that mean you don't like it or you don't want it? My girlfriend and I feel pitiful when we see other couples use bad words to each other instead of lovely words. Young people around my age seem to avoid saying what they really think just when they think it's 'ogl-ogl' to say. But what we must avoid is to make our loved ones misunderstand what we really think about them. Start to use words of love to your boy/girlfriends, parents and all who you love.

I simply live my live: to love more. Isn't romantic? Or do you think it is unrealistic? I just live my life everyday to love more, because I believe that only in love I find the greatest happiness. I can be thought of an idealist but I am living in the same world where you live. I am telling that the purpose of my life is nothing but love. Let all of us love ourselves and express your love to your friends and parents remembering that you would be a lot happier when you love and you are loved. Both-way love is always better. Lastly, don't hesitate to tell words of love. Never mind! You will soon find yourself love to say what you thought 'ogl-ogl.'

Nam Alexander/DOWNLOADING MUSIC/ 5TH ASSIGNMENT

Nam Alexander/Thursday/Sharing music…off the Internet

Before the Internet intervened into the human beings' life they had to keep a line or safe their money within a stretched period of time in order to get the "precious" cassette or disk of their favorite musician or band. But today our intellectuals created the source, which is called the "Internet" and by using it we became able to get any audio file without big efforts. The only thing should be known is how to use the computer. Nowadays it has become a big issue, because many people - businessmen ask "Do the ordinary people have the right to download the music for free and share it within themselves?" From my personal point I cannot take the one of the sides "for" or "against", because it depends on the area of the business I am doing, but I am mostly tend to be in the side of the "free downloaders". After the Internet intervened into our life it brought a big change by doing easier to get the creatures of our favorite musicians and more complicated for the musicians-businessmen to make people pay for their creatures.

First let's ask question to ourselves "Is it the mistake of the ordinary people?" People who are just downloading music for free are an innocent character in this issue. They are rational creatures whose behavior can be justified and understood. The "free downloaders" are faces who want to save their money and enjoy a good music. Before spending the finances we always think on what it should be used in order to better off. According to my personal questioning, 95% of the people would like to download music for free instead of going to the shop and buy it. The ordinary people who are the "free downloaders" should not be punished or blamed for being rational and musician-businessmen should understand them easily, because they are rational too, when they invest their finances.

The part I wrote above should lead us to the next question – "Do the musician – businessmen not have enough financial resources or "brains" to protect their creations?" As they say "We are stolen by the "free downloaders"". But any businessman knows that if you start to do some business it should be protected and if you cannot do that, the only solutions is quit and begin doing another much more protected and beneficial thing. Frankly speaking I do not believe that "free downloading" is really for free, because there is no a person in our world who would do something for "nothing". Therefore musician-businessmen should blame only themselves that they are not able to protect their creations from that people who provide us with the "free downloading".

Next question is about the musician – businessmen like a lot, which is "Be famous". Regardless the fact, that they blame the people of the "free downloading", musician – businessmen are still in their business due to you, me and other millions of the ordinary people who are interested in their creations. Thanks to the Internet people can download and share the music they like between each other. The share means promotion of the musician-businessmen. Only thanks to that easy access people are getting known about the good music and the demand for concerts is increasing. Only imagine the situation when the access to their music is blocked or the case when everyone has to pay for the each audio file. How many people will be able to purchase it? Especially in our modern world which is full of the financial tricks like crisis and so on. Here we come back to the rationalism. People would spend their money on something more valuable. I am sure in that case the musician – businessmen will not earn much more than in the current situation, especially with the growing competition they have to face every day. So, the musician – businessmen enter in this area not only because they are talented, but because they so much like to be famous.

Here I have come out with only few reasons not to blame and punish the ordinary people who can be called "free downloader". We know that everyone is rational and for sure rationalism one of the factors which lead us to "free downloading". Next thing stands in front of our eyes which is protection of the creations. It is not the fault of the people who download, but the problem that musician who is not able to protect his or her own creation. Or maybe the reason could be because it is not tend to be considered as the "TOP SECRET". And who they are without us – people who listen to them, who they are without our support, even if they have an unbelievable talent? It means that if society loses interest to something it will lead to the crash of that thing. So my dear "talent", instead of asking to punish and blaming us, vice versa you should take care of our interest toward you and your creations, because I am sure you are still enjoying yours luxury villa and Bentley...

The causes of stress

Unlike the widely known common sense, that stress usually is detrimental to health of human being, the growing number of recent clinical trials has revealed that stress has some beneficial effects on human body. Many researchers claim that stress helps improving memorization capacity temporarily and better concentrating for longer time. However, despite this lastly publicized good news, stress has been still blamed for major cause of today’s various adult diseases, especially relating to mental illnesses. The causes of stress in today’s our society can be explained as following.

First, the accelerating rate of competition, mainly induced by globalization, is picked up as one of the major reasons. The advent of globalism has led to extreme and endless competition among producers all around the world, causing them to face unprecedentedly harsh reality. Not only the domestic producers and sellers, even the national service industries had to rush into this never-ending fighting, provoking worldwide nations to be chronically stressful. This new trend of cut-throat competition accompanied surging number of conflicts as well.

Secondly, modern humans’ anxiety over money, which is known as the term ‘materialism’, is another cause of stress. Indeed, the growing public trend of materialism is not new in this capitalist world. The problem with this trend, however, is that people believe money to be omnipotent and they start to destroy and ignore the most fundamental values, such as humanity and love. The worsening catastrophe has resulted in changes in contemporary people’s behaviors, letting them to pursue only for money. Therefore, all of the three groups – people who eager to earn, already possess, or failed to get money, feels stressful, and this stress will last forever unless they change their greedy mind over fortune.

Last but not the least, people of our times are often stressed out when they face continual loneliness. According to the statistics conducted by Seoul National University in 2010, over 83% of those surveyed responded that they get stress when they encounter lonely environment for prolonged period. And 75% of respondents revealed that they get additional stress by trying to avoid or escape from this unfavorable situation. Sociologists and psychologists studying these phenomena believe that people’s fear for loneliness mainly came from emerging trend of individualism and disintegrated traditional family structure, which became common these days.

The causes of stress listed on the last three paragraphs let us throw a suspicious question if we can live on the world without stress. Since we cannot bring the world back to the previous one without globalization, materialism and individualism, it seems almost impossible to find perfect escape from stress. However, we can at least try to find alternatives, less stressful life by changing the way you encounter stress. In this context, people should learn how to wisely manage his stress, rather than complain and curse this stressful world.

Causes of Stress

Stress is the emotional and physical way in which we respond to pressure. There are many events in life and a lot of things can cause stress. You may feel stress when you go to a job interview or take a test. But these kinds of short-term stresses are normal. What we have to pay attention is a long-term stress which caused by stressful situations and events that last over a long period of time, such as relationship, work, and personal problems. If you know where the stress is coming from, you can more easily cope with it.

First, People around you not only can be a great source of happiness but also can be a significant cause of stress. Family and personal relationships with friend or coworkers perhaps already became a part of the norm for many people. Maybe that's why it is very hard to open our mind to others as we got older. I've also hurt my mind several times through lots of relationships and have learned that people are self-interested and easily change their mind for their own purpose. However, as we all need other people in our lives, you cannot help avoiding this problem, unless escaping from reality.

For next, our job and career seem to cause constant stress. People in modern society are always overwhelmed by high demands and worrying about new types of work and responsibilities. Students are also not the exception for this. Especially teenage and college students cited school work as a major cause of stress. They have too much work and not have enough time. It seems like we are given endless assignments from birth to die.

Finally, stress can be caused by personal issues and problems outside the work place. Personal problems that cause stress include your health, especially chronic illness like heart disease and emotional problems such as anger you can't express, depression, or low self-esteem. It also covers major life changes, such as dealing with the death of parent or spouse, losing your job, and getting married etc. These kinds of stress are usually inevitable that we may feel more frustrated.

I've listed 3 major causes of stress from now on. Relationship, work, and personal problems; these are causes of stress that we have created for ourselves or, at least, the society has. I'll not tell you how to get over it. Think about what stress you feel the most and how you cope with it. Your answers will help you lead a simpler and natural lifestyle.

Shin Hye, Lee/The causes of stress/Thurs 3-4

Stress: does not this word itself look annoying? Needless to say, stress is one of the serious reasons of all kinds of illness. Most of human beings in our society are suffering from mental illness: stress. In the bookstore, there are so many guide books to manage the causes of stress effectively. Then, what make stress builds up in human mind? In these days, there is no exaggeration that most stress may be caused by relationships with people, financial problem and anxiety about the future.

First of all, stress from human relations would be the major cause of stress in modern society. Besides, this kind of stress is not just limited to office workers, because all people are forced to endure and suppress their irritation and anger against their bosses, families and colleagues. However, this endurance may be the serious reason of great moral pressure. So, if someone cannot express his own emotion and is unconditionally required to suppress his anger to another, he would be suffering from a huge amount of stress.

Secondly, another major reason of our mental illness is "money". Although we do not have to worry about the absolute scarcity of food, we are forced to worry about our current financial situation by ceaselessly comparing with others. Of course, there is still absolute poor who are suffering from lack of basic requisites of human life. However, most people are obsessed by jealousy on relative poverty, which can be also transformed to stress.

Lastly, stress may be caused by uncertainty on one's future. According to mass media, we can easily encounter the news which illustrates that so many people are committing suicide because they were pessimistic about their current situation or worrying about their uncertain future. Of course, this extreme result of stress is not just limited to patients' stories suffering from self-depreciation or serious depression. Many high school students have got stress from their university examinations, most college students have suffered from great pressure of their future jobs, and even employees who had already got their jobs have shaken with deep anxiety on their promotion or future careers, and so on. So, we can find the negative link between anxiety and stress.
To sum up, the causes of stress can be summarized in three main reasons: irritation from human relations, money and anxiety on future. It is pity that we need to live by overcoming stress forever. However, as someone said that the peace lives in our mind. We have an ability to control our psychological anxiety no matter what kind of stress torture us, because everything is inside of us.

Seunghyun Lee/ Cause of Stress / thursday 3-4

I never heard about the word stress when I was young. However, I totally understood the meaning of stress. I'm experiencing it these days. The cause of stress came from three factors: requirement of society, money, people.

The most important factor that makes stress is social requirements. Becoming a functional member of this society gets harder. It requires us more and more. My father told that he got a job only with his college diploma. No other things were needed in 1980's. When we find job today, we must be good at English, have high GPA in college. I think this give us the greatest amount of stress.

Monetary problem is another factor of getting stress. Money is not the best thing in life, but it is good. Especially when we buy things like foods, clothes which are essential for our living, we definitely need it. Making money is easy to waste compare to making it. So we always pay attention to our bank accounts. Low deposit is stressful.

Lastly, we got stress from Human relations. People are all different. We need lots of strategies to get along with many friends, co-workers. When we use wrong one to a person, our relationship can easily be in trouble. It can be really stressful when trouble in relation with co-workers, especially the boss.

In short, social requirements, monetary problem, relationship with people are the main reasons of stress. We all know that stress is inevitable in present. So we had better find way to reduce it not to avoid it.

Causes of Stress

These days, we are under a lot of stress. What is causing the stress and where do we get this stress? It is because the society makes us compete and compares us with other people. So, as example we get stress at home, at university, and at work.

First, you feel stressed at home because of the comparison. For example, you are a high school student. You get stress from your parents, because they always compare you with daughters and sons of their friends or with neighbors. Whenever you get bad grade from your test, they tell you that someone got better grade than you, and ask us "why can't you get good grade like somebody?" So you have to keep the grade better than other people, unless you want lecture from your parents and get stress.

Second, competition at school cause you stress. You might think that the time of stress in high school is over, but it is not true. You get more stress in the university, because you have to compete with other students to get better grades so you can get a good job. We are mostly graded by the relative assessment, so if you want to receive better credit and keep it that way then you must compete with other students. There are limits in grades, meaning not everyone can get A+. So you get stress that you have to study harder and more, because every other student do the same.

Third, there are both competition and comparison at work. People feel stress when they are compared with other colleagues on their tasks. If you want to keep your job or a promotion you have to be better than anyone. You have to stand out and compete with your colleagues and you have to win. For example, if you are a salesman then you have to work hard to get new clients and maintain them, and sometimes you have to compete with your colleagues to get more clients.

Like this you get stress by your parents at home, by the pressure that you have to get good grades at university, and by the competition at work. No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape from this stress. So we have to find our own ways feel peace out of the stress, or to change this stress into a power that is helpful to our lives like a motivation to a success.

Hanul Park, the causes of stress, THU 11-13

Many people have been under stress much for many reasons, like financial, interpersonal and mental problems. Sometimes it makes our life too hard to overcome the stress. Though we understand that have no stress in life cannot be possible, we want to get rid of it. Before this, however, we have to know what makes us be in stress. Among the many causes of them, it can be classified into three main part, divided by time.

First, it is caused by 'concerns of the future'. Nobody can foresee the future, then people always have anxieties to it. Under unexpectable conditions, we often think of a failure and it makes us exhausted. And it has occurred especially in the group of students, since they have no confidence about their life.

Next one is 'dissatisfactions for the present'. Human had evolved into having unlimited greeds and desires. Due to our instinct, we always are dissatisfied with our conditions and want to have more. However, in most situations we had, it cannot be. This gap between ideal and reality makes discontent, and it become a cause of stress.

The last one is 'regrets for the past'. We often think about our passed time, and regret what we did. The question, usually started 'If I were...', is same as the answer 'Why I didn`t do that?'. Despite an learning by experience that it just an unnecessary anxiety and we cannot change the past, we always spend lots of time to worry about this.

Like this, factors causing the stress can categorize into 3 parts by the time. Among them, we can forget regrets to the past if we change our mind optimistically. By understanding what makes stress and reducing them, we can see our life through a good view, and finally, overcome all worries we had.

The Causes of Stress

It's hard to find a person without any stress in our society today. Regardless of sex and age, stress is so commonplace that it has become a way of life for many people living in this society. The bad thing is that stress may bring depression or tiredness or even severe health problems. In my opinion, to actually eradicate stress, people need to know what exactly lead to it. In fact, a lot of things can cause stress. But most of all, I strongly think financial problems, work, and personal irritations are the biggest causes of stress in modern society.

The first cause of stress is financial problems. I have no doubt that this is the number one source of stress these days. People are not able to do what they want to do if they suffer from lack of money. Some people may be stressed by major purchases they have to make such as a house or car. Others are stressed by a loss of income or credit card payments or mounting debts. The worst thing here is that financial stress has the possibility to eventuate in bankruptcy. While college students get stress over expensive tuition and other costs paying for an education, Baby Boomers and seniors find that retirement income can be a major cause of stress. Without financial difficulties, we cannot talk about stress.

Work is another main cause of stress. It's closely related to financial problems. Stress of work can be stress from getting a job or stress from workplaces. If college graduates are asked what their biggest worry is, most of them would say finding a job. They worry about getting and keeping adequate employment. At workplaces, employees may be worried about their next promotion or frustrating behavior of their bosses. Also, they might be under stress because of prospect of losing their job. In fact, people always worry about climbing a career ladder and having new responsibilities. The jobs or careers seem to cause constant stress to people.

Finally, there are those annoyances and irritations that people encounter in daily lives. They may include financial and work problems, which I mentioned above, but they are wider and more related to personal things. I, for example, get so irritated when a bus comes so late in the morning and it becomes like a stress to me. Many people may have same experiences as mine. Problems in workplace, too much workload, not enough sleep, not enough time to relax, can turn to be stress. More trivial things such as being late for class or forgetting to meet friends for lunch can also be the sources of stress. People deal with those annoyances and irritations every day.

Nowadays, the number of people who suffer from stress is uncountable. The major causes of stress are considered to be financial problems, work, and everyday irritations. People must remember that gaining knowledge of the leading causes of stress is important. Using that knowledge to win over unhealthy stress is vital. To break out of the daily stresses, you should start by identifying what really causes your stress.

Siho Yang/ causes of stress/ Thu 11~1

A life is being full of stresses. In modern society, people seem to live very busy lives since they have so many things to take care of. A busy life, however, can give a lot of stresses and put a big burden on people. These stresses mainly occur from work, relationship and an environment.

People have a job and work every day. But this 'work' gives stresses and pressures very much because of several reasons. Usually most works have deadlines. People worry about deadlines so they get nervous at almost every moment. Also, some people have troubles with their bosses. They feel discouraged when they couldn't show their improvement on their working abilities to their bosses. In this stressful working condition, people usually work too long and don't have enough time to get refreshed.

In addition, people feel stressed when their relationships go wrong. Since we live in a society, not alone, we need to deal with various people. There are many different kinds of people around us. So it is obvious that we have some conflicts with others. If we have a fight with family members or friends, we feel anxious because of full of worries and regrets. Even we sometimes hide our real feelings to avoid conflicts so that relationships don't be ruined. This can surely give stresses to us.

Lastly, we become stressful due to things from the environment such as traffic jams, noises and some unexpected accidents. We, human beings, usually feel annoyed when we can't control the environment around us. If we encounter trivial things that don't go as we want, we feel unrelieved because we are too impatient due to busy lives. You can think of many examples about this; slowly-moving elevators, distracting noises from outside, and so on. Since things like this cannot be controlled by us, we get even more nervous.

To sum up, there are so many factors that make people get stressed. Those are usually from working places, personal relations and surroundings. It seems that we may soon be knocked down, however, there are also many ways to relieve ourselves. We can enjoy our hobbies, exercise while breathing fresh air and have some fun with precious people. This is very important because too much stress can give bad effects on your health. So don't forget to relax regularly to keep yourself in a good condition!
